The Birth Bruja BIPOC Mentorship Program is a place for all self-identifying Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (including mixed POC) to deepen our understanding & practice of sustainable, decolonial, community-based approaches to healing & reproductive care. It is open to anyone who is practicing or interested in practicing this work.
Each Sunday will feature a rotation of mentors who present a workshop in their area of expertise or experience. Every other week, participants will be encouraged to attend a gathering held BY them, FOR them, to support the processing of the program material, cultivate community, and build relationships. Throughout the 10 weeks, mentors will offer office hours where participants are invited to sign up for 1:1 sessions. Scroll to the bottom to meet the mentors and see their areas of expertise and experience!
Being based on decolonial praxis, this program:
WHAT THIS IS NOT: This is not a training or certification program nor is this a 101 dive into all that ever was in reproductive care. This is a collaborative space- thus, specific topics and content may vary from cohort to cohort.

Being based on decolonial praxis, this program:
- Is a place devoted to dismantling hierarchies. We are here to dismantle racism, homophobia, transphobia, classism, and all other forms of systemic oppression that are rampant throughout reproductive care. Participants will be expected to practice inclusive language when speaking generally about birthing or menstruating folks.
- Is a place of learning compassion, integrity and accountability. We are here to practice checking our egos, communication skills, understanding nuance, and unlearning harmful ways of being.
- Is a place of co-creation. The mentors are here to hold space, offer guidance, and will NOT be spoon feeding the material. Participants will be expected to process and implement the materials to fit your own scope of reproductive care practice and inquiry while supporting others to do the same.
- Is a place for participants to practice connecting & strengthening their autonomy. Reproductive care is rampant with experts telling us that we don't know enough, aren't trained enough, aren't enough, aren't enough, aren't enough. This is why we are trained to give away our power. Participants will be encouraged and expected to practice connecting & strengthening their autonomy through interacting with community.
- Are there topics & questions not covered in the Sunday Workshops? Reach out to fellow participants for resources and study group support.
- Do you have expertise or experience that isn't being reflected by the mentors? Reach out to fellow participants with an offer to share.
- Is a place that values the full spectrum of reproductive experience and care. We value traditional, ancestral-based approaches to birthwork just as we value western-based practices. We value self taught, untrained folks just as we value folks trained by community or institutionally certified programs. You will see the full range of experiences, approaches and orientation in this program.
WHAT THIS IS NOT: This is not a training or certification program nor is this a 101 dive into all that ever was in reproductive care. This is a collaborative space- thus, specific topics and content may vary from cohort to cohort.

Scope/Themes Offered in Mentorship:
MEET SHALINI I am a prenatal educator, lactation counselor, and full spectrum doula who has been working with expectant families for over 10 years. Throughout my career, I have supported over 2,000 families in navigating the pregnancy and birthing process. My pragmatic evidence based approach offers individuals and families the opportunity to tap into their intuition and navigate their options to make the best decisions for their experience. I am down-to-earth and compassionate in my care and bring a steady sense of peace, joy, and humor to the process. I am proud to work with people of all identities and family structures. I’m passionate about supporting the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) community and created BIPOC In The Bay, a community resource network aiming to increase the visibility of BIPOC birth workers in the Bay Area. I am also the owner of Due Dates, a date-based snack company designed for pregnant and postpartum parents. |
