DESCRIPTION
It’s no secret that the structures and institutions that exist, at this point in time, are not it. COVID-19 has made it abundantly clear that we can’t continue this way. It is up to us to imagine our future into existence.
Reimagining Our Futures is a poetry workshop inspired by the works of Octavia Butler, Adrienne Maree Brown and themes of Afrofuturism.
We will use poetry to create new worlds and imagine new possibilities.
This workshop is for anyone who read Emergent Strategy by Adrienne Maree Brown and basically anything by Octavia Butler and felt like they were being seen fully for the first time. Or maybe you are someone who has been feeling uninspired and wants to hangout with other people like them and dream together.
You do not need to be a poet or have any writing experience to attend this workshop.
Recommended readings will be sent out to registrants beforehand.
FACILITATOR
Jennifer Molina (she/her) is a Queer, Dominican, full spectrum doula, middle child, best friend, sister, poet, storyteller, performer, NYC native. She's had a journal hidden in her backpack since she was 10. She has performed her poems at open mic nights in NYC and acted in an Uptown rendition of The Vagina Monologues. She believes the most radical thing we can do is tell our story when others tell us it’s not important. Jennifer is not a published author, but her journaling and poetry have helped her cope with good and hard times. She hopes that you can find some comfort in it too.
