THE PURSUIT OF KNOWLEDGE
LEADS TO WISDOM.

Birth Bruja is an online educational platform devoted to intersectional, liberational, and decolonial approaches to healing and reproductive care. Here, we consider the intersections of all three theories and how they intertwine and impact our lives on a daily basis. We feature a wide array of topics that range from reproductive care skill-building, reclaiming ancestral traditions, dismantling systemic violence, cultivating community, and more.

ERI GUAJARDO JOHNSON
Educator, Birthworker, Peer Counselor for Sexual Assault Survivors & Founder of Birth Bruja
Eri Guajardo Johnson (she, they) is a queer, bi-racial Latinx birthworker who specializes in supporting survivors of sexual violence and teaching care providers within the intersections of healing & reproductive care.

For over 15 years, Eri has been dedicated to supporting survivors of sexual assault & marginalized populations. She has studied indigenous Mexican and Indian healing modalities to learn about mind, body, spirit, communal wellness, herbalism, and food as medicine. They've taught and organized countless classes and community events centered around the healing and empowerment of those most marginalized in our society.

They are the founder of Birth Bruja- an online educational platform devoted to decolonial approaches to healing and reproductive care- where they teach and host other guest facilitators. Outside of Birth Bruja, you can find Eri teaching & speaking on panels via local community organizations, non-profits, academia & more.

Micaela "Mickey" McHenry (she/her/ella) has been a full spectrum doula for over a decade. Mickey's work is rooted in her ancestral traditions; Lakota/Apache/Mexika, and focuses on navigating reproductive care, birth and the postpartum experience holistically.

Mickey has worked with various family centered non-profit organizations throughout her lifetime, and believes that through healing families we can heal communities. Additionally, she enjoys spending time in community with other birthworkers, and is always ready to lend an ear, and share experience. Some of her hobbies include cooking, eating, napping, writing, yoga, hiking, dog momming, and traveling.

CATHERINE PETRU
Co-Founder & Director, Cultural Producer at We Rise Productions & Birth Bruja Word Witch
Catherine (aka Cat)  (she/her) remembers sitting in red plastic squashy booths at a vegan Chinese restaurant on Ohlone land in California with Eri. Pens & notebooks out, it was their first official brainstorming session for the Birth Bruja podcast. Neither of them knew how quickly Birth Bruja would grow.

While there are many things Eri & Cat have in common — their fathers are both lawyers (so they know how to argue…for better & worse), they love all things rose, singing, ritualing, dancing, & drinking from many beverages at the same time — the invisible energy that brings these two together again and again is their relentless passion for the magic & wisdom of collaborative creation, community-rooted storytelling, & the fortitude unearthed in relationship when the path of collective liberation is uncertain & challenging.

Cat joins the Birth Bruja team in the spirit of this love affair, with analytical prowess, mad producer skills, & a panache for asking juicy questions. She’ll be wordsmithing, media producing, grant writing, cultural strategizing, & more.

DJLX
Founder of DiaspoRADiCAL Soundscapes & Birth Bruja Resident DJ
An Aquarius born in central Zimbabwe, DJLX's  (he/him, they/them) parents gave him the name “Alexander.” This name quickly morphed into “Zanda” before he could even spit his first bar to a beat. It’s safe to say they've been in love with music—from anywhere and anytime—for as long as they can remember.

Growing up in Zimbabwe, listening to the radio, they wanted to be the person responsible for the tune selection… while making the chicka-chicka (scratch sounds). A dream which was realized as a freshman in college. He took up the name “DJLX” and dedicated himself to digging for the juiciest, thought provoking, and titillating sounds.

DJLX is on a quest to decolonize the airwaves so that we can all get a beat to spit our bars on. DiaspoRADiCAL Soundscapes is an expression of this work.
