The Birth Bruja BIPOC Mentorship Program is a place for all self-identifying Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (including mixed POC) to deepen our understanding & practice of sustainable, decolonial, community-based approaches to birthwork and reproductive care. It is open to anyone who is practicing or interested in practicing this work.

Applications are due Sunday, March 21st
by 9:00pm PST | 11:00pm CST | 11:59pm EST
Being based on decolonial praxis, this program:
Is a place devoted to dismantling hierarchies. We are here to dismantle racism, homophobia, transphobia, classism, and all other forms of systemic oppression that are rampant throughout reproductive care. Participants will be expected to practice inclusive language when speaking generally about birthing or menstruating folks.
Is a place of learning compassion, integrity and accountability. We are here to practice checking our egos, communication skills, understanding nuance, and unlearning harmful ways of being.
Is a place of co-creation. The mentors are here to hold space, offer guidance, and will NOT be spoon feeding the material. Participants will be expected to process and implement the materials to fit your own scope of reproductive care practice and inquiry while supporting others to do the same.
Is a place that values the full spectrum of reproductive experience and care. We value traditional, ancestral-based approaches to birthwork just as we value western-based practices. We value self taught, untrained folks just as we value folks trained by community or institutionally certified programs. You will see the full range of experiences, approaches and orientation in this program.
Is a place for participants to practice connecting & strengthening their autonomy. Reproductive care is rampant with experts telling us that we don't know enough, aren't trained enough, aren't enough, aren't enough, aren't enough. This is why we are trained to give away our power. Participants will be encouraged and expected to practice connecting & strengthening their autonomy through interacting with community.
- Are there topics & questions not covered in the Sunday Workshops? Reach out to fellow participants for resources and study group support.
- Do you have expertise or experience that isn't being reflected by the mentors? Reach out to fellow participants with an offer to share.
WHAT THIS IS NOT: This is not a training or certification program nor is this a 101 dive into all that ever was in reproductive care. This is a collaborative space- thus, specific topics and content may vary from cohort to cohort.

Meet the Mentors
Each Sunday workshop will feature a rotation of mentors who will present on an area of expertise or experience. Every other week, participants will be encouraged to attend a gathering held BY them, FOR them, to support the processing of the program material, cultivate community, and build relationships. Throughout the 10 weeks, mentors will offer office hours where participants are invited to sign up for 1:1 sessions.

My name is Micaela but most friends and family call me Mickey. I carry Indigenous lineage from both Mexico and America, and have been fine tuning my birthwork practices to reflect and align with my ancestor's teachings. I have been a postpartum doula for 12 years and a birth doula for about 8 years. I started it as what I thought was "newborn care/parent support/abortion support."
As more and more people around me found themselves pregnant I became the go-to person for support and advice. I started being offered payment for my work; and suddenly, I had a birthwork practice. I firmly believe life and experience are our biggest teachers, and my practice is ever evolving with each birth experience I am lucky enough to be included in. My practices may be forever changing but my work is deeply rooted in radical self love, birth, postpartum, activism, and community. I have had involvement in various child, and family centered projects including work with Planned Parenthood, YWCA, and The Sudanese Refugee Foundation. I hope to inspire other BIPOC birthworkers to take up space in whitewashed wellness spaces, and reclaim and mend their ancestral traumas through this work as I have been so lucky to.
